Human-bear encounters are common in the high peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains. This has led the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to require non-pliable bear canisters to be used by backpackers in the Eastern High Pekas from April 1 And November 30.
Using a canister is not only a way to secure your food, but it will reduce the likelihood that Yogi will continue to return to high-use campsites. The trick is the canisters need to be used properly with a proper camp set-up.
Check out the video on Adirondack bear safety and how to use a bear canister in your campsite.
