Cowan Mountain is a 3107′ Catskill 67 peak that towers over the Town of Hobart. It is situated 1.2-miles west of Narrow Notch. Connected by ridges is North or “Lower” Cowan (3080′) about 0.4-miles NE and Lyon Mountain (2927′) 0.85-miles WNW. Cowan is defined by sharp distinctive ridges. On some (USGS) maps Cowan Mountain is shown as its North or Lower peak. Cowan Mountain is ranked 77th highest in the Catskill 100 and 42nd of the Catskill 67. Any route you take up this mountain is on private property.
