Fawn Lake is a remote 18-acre sheet of water located in Albany County on the Helderberg Escarpment in the Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area. It is one of a dozen bodies of water in this Wildlife Management Area. Elevation of the Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area is between 1600 to 1900 feet, and winter is long. The NYSDEC added the Wildlife Management Area to designated as part of the Helderberg Bird Conservation Area; therefore, if fishing the pond take time to do some birding – bring your field glasses!

A Great Blue Heron flew out of the marsh on the day of this blog post; see the video below. You’ll also share the lake with two beavers. If you interrupted their routine, they would certainly let you know! A good omen for the angler is the heron prowling bodies of water with good feeding, and their favorite food is fish.

The angler will find warm water species in the shallow pond, including pickerel, bass, yellow perch, bullhead, and sunfish. The pond has quite a bit of vegetation, so top or shallow lures are best. Fishing is allowed year-round.

The parking area at the end of Fawn Lake Road (a truck/gravel road) has space for about ten cars. You’ll carry your boat a few hundred feet downhill to the dock from the parking area, or you can fish from the dam.

The Long Path crosses the parking area and heads into the woods on White Birch Pond Road. As Tubbs Pond is in the Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area, there is no camping, swimming, bathing, or motors on boats.

See the link to the NYSDEC at the bottom of the page for all WMA restrictions. You can also find specific fishing regulations for Tubbs Pond at the NYSDEC website in its Freshwater Fishing Regulation Guide.
