Rusk and East Rusk in the Catskills from ridge on Hunter Mountain

Rusk Mountain is a required peak for the Catskill 3500 Club membership. It is the highest peak in Lexington Chain just west of Hunter Mountain. No trail traverses this range. With a summit elevation of 3,680, it is 22nd highest in the Catskill high peaks. However, located next to Hunter, Southwest Hunter, and West Kill mountains it seems slight. The Adirondack Mountian Club has closed the Heart Lake Program Center (Lake Placid), Johns Brook Property (Keene Valley), and Member Service Center (Lake George) until at least May 14th.

The Adirondack Mountain Reserve (“AMR”) is immediately reducing the parking capacity on its lot located on the southerly end of Ausable Road where it intersects with Route 73 in St. Huberts.

Effective until further notice all NYS Fire Towers are closed. Also hiking Doubletop and Graham has been closed by the landowners.

The trails connecting to the upper viewing platform to the famed Kaaterskill Falls will be closed until further notice. Read more here
